Lillard's 36 spoil Aldridge's return as Blazers top Spurs

San Antonio outlasts Atlanta 107-99

Spurs star LaMarcus Aldridge was cleared to return to full basketball activities and will start Wednesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers with no restrictions, the team announced.

Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich also said Aldridge has been a "consummate pro" while dealing with his heart arrhythmia issue.

Aldridge had an occurrence of minor heart arrhythmia in Oklahoma City on March 9.

Multiple tests, exams and consultations with experts led the Spurs medical staff to clear the Spurs forward to resume playing, beginning Wednesday against the Portland Trail Blazers.

"We are thankful that LaMarcus will be able to rejoin the team", said Spurs' general manager R.C. Buford. "'All of us have been impressed with the professionalism and grace he has shown in dealing with this hard situation'".

But the Spurs would never hold a lead than they did in the opening moments of the game, as the Trail Blazers went on an 11-2 run after San Antonio's initial push to take their first lead of the game at 18-16.

"He has dealt with this all year long, which nobody really knew about", Popovich said. According to ESPN, Aldridge is now averaging 17.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this season.

Spurs forward LaMarcus Aldridge took to social media Wednesday afternoon to thank those who supported him while he was sidelined with a heart ailment.

"[Aldridge] has gone through some procedures". After getting a stop on the defensive end, San Antonio was unable to tie the game after Leonard missed a driving hook shot from about five feet out. "He has shown a lot of class".

Aldridge was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome - an abnormality that can cause a rapid heartbeat - as a rookie in 2007.

Kawhi Leonard had 34 points, including a pair of monster throwdowns, but it wasn't enough.

Aldridge's return to the court was set to come at an important time, with the Spurs sitting just one win off the top seed in the Western Conference but with two games in hand.

However, with several close playoff games a near-certainty, Ginobili will need to work on his free-throw shooting - both when to make shots and when to miss them.
