Today Microsoft released the new version of the Windows 10. It is specifically geared for toward professional customers that use the high-end hardware to support the mission-critical workloads. The Windows 10 pro for the Workstation will feature Microsoft Resilient File system (server grade file system), support the persistent memory (NVDIMM-N), faster file sharing with the SMD direct support for high-end hardware with up to 4CPUs and  6TB of memory.

The name implies, the focus here is indeed on the high-end hardware for this edition of the Windows. It means support for Intel Xeon and AMD Opteron processors. The standard version of the Windows 10 only supports up to the 2 CPUs and 2TB of memory. The new version will give the customers on these top-of-the –line workstation and access to a lot of more power. It especially for when combined with the persistent memory.

The server grade file system as the name implies is meant to provide an extra level of data availability, fault-tolerance, and resilience. It can handle the huge volumes and automatically repair errors when the data on one of the backup device becomes corrupted. The Microsoft standard NTFS scheme can handle volumes of up to 256TB. Resilient File System can theoretically use for the volumes of up to 4.7 zettabytes. That is about a billion terabytes and 8 million years of 8k video.

Users can also take their data and use the SMB Direct to make it to available to other users on their network. The Remote Direct Memory Access is the capability of the new version Windows 10. The SMD Direct enables the fast file access with low latency battery uses the local CPU. The new feature is available in the Microsoft server operating system.
