Analyst predicts PlayStation 5 unimaginable popularity: the console will replace the PC in esports
Rakuten Japan Economic Research Institute analyst Norio Imanaka recently published an article predicting that between 200 and 300 million PlayStation 5 consoles will be sold in 5-6 years. According to him, the number of systems sold could potentially reach record values and this will put an end to the console war.
According to the rather optimistic analyst, Sony’s next-generation console could dominate the eSports market as it replaces PCs and thereby significantly expand its user base throughout the system’s lifecycle. Just as basketball fans want Nike shoes, esports fans will want the PlayStation 5, which is why Sony is expected to sell between 200 million and 300 million consoles within 5-6 years, Imanaka said.
While selling 200 to 300 million devices doesn’t sound very realistic, the analyst went further. According to him, the PlayStation 5 may eventually reach the mark of 600-700 million systems sold over the entire service life, that is, it can sell five times better than the PlayStation 2, which was very popular at the time.
