Apple Explains How MagSafe And iPhone 12 Affect Pacemakers, And Tips On How To Avoid “Blackout.”

In early January, the Hearth Rhythm Journal published an article about a medical study that showed that MagSafe in iPhone 12 could disable pacemakers, causing quite a stir on the network.

A new document in the Apple support section states:

iPhone contains magnets and components and radio transmitters that emit electromagnetic fields. All MagSafe accessories (sold separately) also contain magnets, MagSafe Charger and MagSafe Duo contain radio transmitters. These magnets and electromagnetic fields can interfere with medical devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators. Although all iPhone 12 models contain more magnets than previous iPhones, they are not expected to pose a greater risk of electromagnetic interference to medical devices than previous iPhones. “

Apple also clarifies that pacemakers and defibrillators’ sensors can react at close range to magnetic and radio waves. To avoid potential interference, Apple recommends keeping iPhone and MagSafe accessories at a safe distance of more than 15 cm from medical equipment. If wireless charging, a minimum distance of 30 cm is recommended.

Apple also recommends that users consult with a physician and the manufacturer of a particular medical device about how it works, as there are many types of medical devices.
