Apple is testing Music and Podcast apps for Microsoft platforms

Apple ditched iTunes for macOS back in 2019 with the release of macOS Catalina, dividing its functionality between the Music, TV and Podcasts apps. However, the company still releases iTunes for Windows. There are now rumours that Apple’s Music and Podcasts apps may soon be available in the Windows Store.

At the end of 2019, a job posting at Apple was posted on the Web, in which the company announced that it was looking for a developer of next-generation multimedia UWP apps for Windows. And now, according to reports, the Music and Podcasts UWP programs are in closed beta. It is assumed that their release will take place before the end of this year. It’s not clear yet if these apps are for Xbox users only, like Apple TV, or if they will be available to PC users as well.

Apple is constantly expanding the list of platforms supported by branded services. For example, the Apple TV app is already available on Chromecast from Google TV and select LG and Sony smart TVs. There is speculation that Apple’s UWP apps will be presented closer to the Windows 10X release scheduled for this spring since the upcoming OS will not receive support for the usual Win32 programs.
