In 2019, Apple Watch users started complaining about the compass built into it not working properly. The manufacturer reacted to this situation in his usual style: a note was added to the description on the site in small print , stating that branded straps containing magnets could interfere with the Compass application on smartwatches.
Apple Watch will be able to account for interference from its built-in compass with certain straps
According to new information, Apple plans to take into account the sad experience in the future. The source found Apple’s patent application in the US Patent and Trademark Office database titled “Hardware Compensation for Soft Magnetic Interference in the Field.”
The filing describes several changes to the magnetometer and design of the Apple Watch, including a new “anti-interference shield.” This screen and other enhancements can collectively offset the impact of materials used in certain straps.
As conceived by the authors of the application, the device can detect that a strap is attached to it, introducing distortion. This can be done using one or more sensors or by a signal supplied by the strap itself. Once the device has become aware of the presence of a source of distortion, it can prompt the user to confirm its concerns, or enter the necessary correction on its own.
