ASUS releases compact GeForce RTX 3070 with EKWB waterblock and 12-pin power connector

ASUS has introduced the next version of the GeForce RTX 30xx series graphics accelerator, equipped with a full-coverage water block from the leading developer of liquid cooling systems from Slovenia, EK Water Blocks. Earlier, the Taiwanese manufacturer announced the older models GeForce RTX 3080 and GeForce RTX 3090 in the same performance. This time, the company showed the younger version of the GeForce RTX 3070.

Perhaps the most important feature of the novelty is not a water block at all, but the presence of a 12-pin additional power connector on the video card. Such a solution can be found only in reference versions of GeForce RTX 30 series video cards from NVIDIA itself. According to VideoCardz, the manufacturer of the GeForce RTX 3070 EKWB is ASUS, while the board seems to have retained NVIDIA’s reference design.

Interestingly, the connector has all 12 working contacts. Recall that the reference version of the GeForce RTX 3070 from NVIDIA, although it is equipped with a 12-pin connector, has only 6 working pins, as you can see if you look at the photo of the proprietary cable below.

In the system unit, the new product from ASUS will occupy one expansion slot. The terminal for connecting hoses of the liquid cooling system is located in a very unusual place – on the right side of the printed circuit board. Apparently, it had to be moved due to the peculiarity of the printed circuit board and the location of the additional power connector. Among other things, it should be added that the water block is equipped with RGB backlighting.

For the GeForce RTX 3070 EKWB model, ASUS offers a slight overclocking of the GPU. The declared frequency of the chip in Boost mode is 1755 MHz, which is only 1.7% higher than the reference value. The video card is equipped with 8 GB of GDDR6 video memory with an effective frequency of 14 GHz and a bus width of 256 bits.

Unfortunately, ASUS does not name the price for its new product.
