EA refused to release a separate version of NHL 21 for PS5 and Xbox Series X

Electronic Arts have announced its refusal to develop a separate version of the NHL 21 hockey simulator for the next generation consoles – Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. This was reported on the publisher’s website.

For NHL 21, we made the decision to focus on introducing new game features rather than wasting resources on time-consuming porting to next-gen consoles. Of course, you can play the simulator on PS5 and Xbox Series X thanks to the backward compatibility system, but we will be developing the game for PS4 and Xbox One, ”said EA.

The NHL usually comes out in September, but this year the developers postponed the release to October due to the outbreak of coronavirus infection. The studio said they would need more time to “polish and fix bugs

NHL 20 was released in September 2019. The project received positive reviews from critics and scored 77 points on Metacritic. Despite this, users took the game negatively. According to players, the developers release the same simulator year after year with minimal changes. They argue that this is due to the lack of competition – because of this, EA has no motivation to improve the game in any way.
