As a reminder, with the release in 2019 of the restart of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, a completely new co-op mode for the series called Special Ops Survival was introduced, which remained exclusive to the PS4 for a year. Today the exclusivity has ended and all PC and Xbox One owners have access to it.

In the current generation of consoles, Sony and Activision have worked closely together on Call of Duty. Most Call of Duty projects over the past six years have been released with some kind of exclusive content or perks for PS4 owners, which was intended to encourage shooter fans to prefer PS4 over other platforms.

Last year, just weeks before the game’s launch, Activision and Infinity Ward officially unveiled Special Ops Survival as a new 4-player co-op in Modern Warfare, challenging to survive against waves of enemies. Various maps and scenarios have been added since launch, but the model remained a PS4 exclusive.

However, Special Ops Survival did not receive positive reviews in the media, and most critics called it one of the weakest aspects of the shooter. But those fans of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on PC and Xbox who wanted to evaluate it themselves, now have that opportunity.

The partnership between Sony and Activision will continue in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. For example, all PS4 owners will be able to participate in the open beta before the rest. Other PlayStation-exclusive content is expected to be included in the game. The shooter will be released on November 13 on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 with the option to upgrade to versions for PS5 or Xbox Series, respectively. For pre-ordering, users will get access to beta testing of the multiplayer mode and the Woods Operator Pack.
