Google extended battery life for Android smartphones, but spoiled multitasking

The developers are testing a new platform feature that can extend the battery life of smartphones with Android 11. This is a feature that allows the user to “freeze” background applications, which will reduce battery consumption since frozen applications do not consume CPU power. Of course, multitasking suffers somewhat.

The feature was noticed in the code at the stage of beta testing of Android 11, but enthusiasts could not activate it then. The function has now started appearing in its default activated form.

It was noticed by a user of the social news resource Reddit, who published a short guide on how to turn it off to improve multitasking. The author of the post uses a Pixel 3 with Android 11. The editor-in-chief of the authoritative thematic resource XDA Developers was also able to find a feature setting on his Pixel 4 in the developer settings section.
