HDR finally arrives in YouTube app on Xbox consoles

Google announced that YouTube videos can now be viewed in HDR on Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The specialists of the resource FlatpanelsHD confirmed that after the update, the image is broadcast in HDR format PQ Rec.2020 using the VP9-2 codec.

HDR YouTube videos are noticeably brighter and more colourful. The maximum resolution will depend on your console: the Xbox Series X supports 4Kat up to 60fps, while the Xbox One S delivers 1440p HDR at 60fps.

As FlatpanelsHD pointed out, Microsoft promised HDR support in the YouTube app on Xbox consoles back in 2017. Why the implementation took so long is unknown.
