Intel’s Rocket Lake processors are still the company’s dark horse. On the one hand, they will keep the old technical process, they will not get the newest architecture, and the maximum number of cores will be reduced to eight, on the other hand, some of the first tests are quite intriguing.
Intel gives hope. Core i7-11700K benchmarks show these processors can do better than you might expect
For example, apparently, already a pre-production sample of Core i7-11700K with final frequencies (3.6-5.0 GHz) showed itself very worthy in Geekbench. In particular, it scored 1807 and 10 673 points in single-threaded and multi-threaded modes, respectively, which is 34% and 19% more than the Core i7-10700K produces with slightly higher frequencies and the same number of cores. That is, the performance gain, conditionally, only due to the architecture change will be very large. At least for Intel, because AMD has been showing this for two years in a row.
But the upcoming novelty from Intel still stands up to the comparison with a competitor’s CPU. For example, the newest Ryzen 5000 in Geekbench 5 single-threaded mode scores around 1600-1700 points. True, in multi-threaded mode, the same eight-core Ryzen 7 5800X gains about the same as the Core i7-11700K. On the other hand, even such a result for Intel in the desktop segment can be considered a victory, since the company has been catching up for the last few years, and it has done so very uncertainly.
