IO Interactive: Agent 47 Needs Rest, But This Is Not The End For The Hitman Franchise

IGN spoke with Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, as part of the IGN Unfiltered show. In the conversation, they talked about Hitman’s further fate after the release of the third part of the series, which was relaunched in 2016. Agent 47 now “deserves a rest,” the executive said, but this is not the end of the franchise. According to him, a new part of the series will appear, but not short.

Hakan Abrak’s comment: “We now believe that Agent 47 deserves a little rest. He’s been busy for the last three games. But, as mentioned, we continue to release content and support World of Assassination, which is the common name for our three [last] games. For five years now, we’ve been releasing something new to our communities every week since we launched Hitman [2016]. And we will continue to do so, moving forward

“This is not the end for Agent 47,” continued Hakan Abrak. – I want to make sure everyone knows it … As we said earlier, this is synonymous with IO; this is our favorite franchise, and, of course, Hitman will get a sequel. Agent 47 might take a break, but that doesn’t mean we’re not working on some cool ideas for World of Assassination. There is a lot of activity coming [in this regard], and I look forward to talking about it sometime in the future

Let’s remind: Hitman 3 became the last project of IO Interactive. The game was released on January 20, 2021, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Series S, and received many accolades from critics.

In the same IGN Unfiltered talk, Abrak talked about how the studio got on an independent track after ending its partnership with Square Enix.
