LG begins shipping 2021 TVs – large diagonal and up to 8K resolution

LG today announced that it would ship new TVs from its current 2021 family, which was unveiled at CES. It includes both relatively affordable models and flagship ones, with all the company’s latest technologies.

The company divides new TVs into three series, according to the type of matrix used: OLED, QNED Mini LED, and NanoCell. Display diagonals range from 43 to 88 inches.

The OLED TVs group includes the Z1, G1, C1, B1, A1 models. In the TVs of the G1 family, the company uses a new generation of OLED Evo matrices. The word Evo is the marketing name for the technology. Essentially, these matrices have higher brightness and more detail than conventional OLEDs. LG positions TVs of the B1 and A1 families as junior models for “ entering the world of OLED TVs.” The C1 family includes the widest choice of diagonals from 48 to 83 inches. The manufacturer has not specified anything about the Z1 series yet.

The LG QNED Mini LED LCD TV family is available in 8K (QNED99, QNED95) and 4K (QNED90, QNED85) models. A feature of these TVs’ matrices is the use of several layers: LED backlighting, quantum dots, and directly LCD-matrices. This arrangement gives QNED TVs a contrast ratio of 1,000,000: 1. The refresh rate reaches 120 Hz.

The company has not forgotten about NanoCell TVs, which are also available with 8K and 4K matrices. In the case of NanoCell 8K TVs, only two models are presented: NANO99 and NANO95. But with 4K, everything is more interesting. Here five options are available for purchase: NANO90, NANO85, NANO80, NANO77, NANO75. The new NanoCell TVs are available in versions from 64.5 to 85.5 inches.

All TVs have HDMI 2.1 support, thanks to which they support image output at a resolution up to 8K and with a refresh rate up to 120 Hz from external sources. As noted in the press release, all of the aforementioned TVs have support for Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Atmos, and HDR10 PRO.

The company has also taken care of gamers and sports fans. The dedicated artificial intelligence “LG AI Picture Pro,” built into the smart TVs’ operating system, analyzes objects in the image and enhances their quality for better immersion. Special algorithms “AI Sound Pro” can convert two-channel audio to 5.1 sound. All this is made possible thanks to the powerful fourth-generation LG Alpha 9 processor.

When and at what price the TVs will go on sale is currently unknown.
