Microsoft acknowledges emerging issues with built-in Windows 10 security features

It became known that one of the recent updates to Windows 10 may lead to the disruption of the sandbox (Windows Sandbox) and the Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG). Microsoft has officially acknowledged the existence of a problem that some users of Windows 10 versions 2004, 1909, and 1903 have encountered. This is an error due to which a system error appears when launching the mentioned applications.

Recall that the “Windows Sandbox” is an isolated virtual working environment for running suspicious applications and files so that they cannot in any way affect the main system. When the user closes the sandbox, all files inside it are automatically deleted. As for WDAG, it is a tool to protect Windows 10 users and the proprietary Edge browser from all sorts of threats while interacting with the webspace.

It is worth noting that the presence of this problem was reported by participants in the Microsoft Insider Program who participated in testing updates before they began to be distributed to ordinary users. A temporary solution to the problem is to reboot the operating system, but in the future, the failure may occur again if the user, for example, closes and restarts the Windows Sandbox.

Microsoft is currently working on a fix for a bug that prevents Windows Sandbox and WDAG from launching. It is expected to be released alongside one of the next updates for Windows 10.
