Microsoft fixes a bug in Windows 10 that caused BSODs when checking drives
Earlier it became known that the December update for Windows 10 (20H2) and Windows 10 (2004) not only fixes errors and increases the overall level of stability of the software platform, but also brings problems to some users. In some cases, the update disrupts the chkdsk utility, which causes blue screens of death (BSOD) to appear when checking drives. Now it has become known that Microsoft has recognized the problem and has even released a solution to it.
Although Microsoft did not clarify which versions of the operating system the issue affects, user reports indicate that the error is observed on some computers running Windows 10 (20H2) and Windows 10 (2004), where the December OS update was already installed.
According to reports, Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and has released a hotfix. Its distribution began today, but it will take some time before it is delivered to all affected devices. Enterprise customers who may have encountered this issue are advised to use the appropriate Group Policy, which can be configured on the Microsoft support site.
Recall that the chkdsk system utility in Windows operating systems runs from the command line and does not have a graphical interface. It checks drives for file system errors and fixes them if found.
