Microsoft Teams is used by 145 million people every day worldwide

It became known that the Microsoft Teams service is used daily by 145 million people around the world. Compared to 115 million daily active users in October last year, there is an increase of 26%. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the need for remote work services such as Teams or Zoom has skyrocketed, so they continue to be in demand today.

When the coronavirus pandemic first began, Microsoft Teams had about 32 million daily active users. In the early days of the pandemic, the number of users increased dramatically, and within a few weeks, 75 million people interacted with the service every day. The impressive growth is driven not only by the global environment but also by Microsoft’s vigorous push for its corporate customers to move to the cloud and adopt Teams.

It is difficult to measure the popularity of Teams against competitors such as Zoom or Slack since these services do not record daily active users but collect more aggregated data. Because of this, the same user can be counted multiple times if they have attended different meetings during the day. According to Zoom, the service had 300 million daily active users last year. As for Slack, about 100 million people used it every day. At the start of the pandemic, Slack was used by about 12.5 million people a day, but since then, the service has not disclosed data on the number of daily active users.

The explosive growth of the Microsoft Teams user base is one reason why service interruptions occur from time to time. The last major disruption to Teams happened this week. For about two hours, service users around the world experienced difficulties in interacting with the cloud platform.
