Microsoft: Xbox Game Pass brings little profit in the short term

If you know about Xbox Game Pass and follow the development of the service, then you have probably wondered how profitable this service is for Microsoft, given the regular promotions and the appearance of large games in the catalog shortly after release. This question was answered by the head of marketing for Xbox Aaron Greenberg, speaking with What’s God Games.

“We always laugh when we hear this. Please don’t worry about us. Microsoft will be fine, ”he said. Aaron also shared that Xbox Game Pass is not a very profitable service in the short term, as it is designed to distribute quality products and win over fans.

“When people feel that you [give them expensive games for a low price], they not only want to keep using your service, but they also want to tell their friends about it. The most powerful marketing is word of mouth. We can’t create as many ads as we want, but if we both say to one of our closest friends, “You need to sign up for Game Pass!” That’s far more effective than any marketing I can arrange, ” he added.

According to Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft thinks long term and believes that the service will bring big profits in a few years. The company’s strategy is now being built around Xbox Game Pass – the Project xCloud cloud service will become part of the Ultimate subscription, and all games shown at the Xbox Games Showcase will be included in its catalog.
