Mortal Kombat 11 Tournament Participant Suspended From Competition For Criticizing Developers

The professional player in Mortal Kombat 11 with the nickname Titaniumtigerzz was suspended from participation in the Pro Competition championship due to criticism from the developers. The reason was a set of tricks for Shiva, which he called “WhyDidNRSdoThis” (Why did NetherRealm Studios do this?). Kotaku writes about it.

The disqualification happened right during the broadcast. After its launch, commentators reported a “small problem”. They soon announced that Titaniumtigerzz had been disqualified, noting that “everyone must abide by the rules,” hinting at a violation. NetherRealms Studios and WB Games declined to comment on the situation.

The sportsman said that the disqualification was due to the name of the set of techniques. The title “WhyDidNRSdoThis” was supposed to be a little joke on Shiva’s imbalance. According to him, the character has techniques that cannot be blocked. This puts the hero in an advantageous position in a variety of situations.

The players were not immediately informed of this, so they continued to fight without broadcast for several minutes. When the competition moderator informed him about it, Titaniumtigerzz suggested changing the name, but he was not allowed to do so.

The official rules of Pro Competition do not stipulate clear conditions for disqualifying players for protest behavior, but the organizers can remove a participant for almost any reason. Many players have supported Titaniumtigerzz on social media. They started using the hashtag #WhyDidNRSDoThis to reach out to developers.
