According to the available data, in order for this feature to work, a certain code must be added to websites. Thanks to this, sites will be able to automatically reduce the frame rate or slow down the speed of execution of various scripts. After receiving a request from the site, Chrome will automatically apply the energy efficiency settings until the user navigates to another resource.

Obviously, the new feature will be well received by users who are used to interacting with Chrome but have to give it up when the battery of their device starts to run out. The Battery-Saving Meta Tag is expected to arrive in Chrome 86 or 87. It is currently available to developers through the Origin Trials platform.
