AMD Ryzen 7000 – AMD has announced the new range of Ryzen 7000 processors for desktop systems based on the Zen 4 architecture, as scheduled . It starts with four models belonging to the Ryzen 9, 7 and 5 lines, but others will arrive in the coming months. More in detail, these are Ryzen 9 7950X, Ryzen 9 7900X, Ryzen 7 7700X and Ryzen 5 7600X . The flagship model is equipped with 16 cores / 32 threads, all of which are made with TSMC 5nm manufacturing process.
To give the idea of the step forward made compared to the previous generation , AMD takes as a reference the current top range Ryzen 9 7950X: performance increased by + 29% in single-core, + 45% in the creation activity content with POV Ray, + 15% in the recreational field; performance per watt increased by + 27%. But even the current entry model of the new line the Ryzen 5 7600X defends itself well as the official graph that summarizes the in-game performance in 1080p suggests.
The new CPUs arrive on the market accompanied by the new AMD platform with Socket AM5 designed to be supported until 2025.
The AMD Ryzen 7000 series offers top gaming performance, tremendous power for content creation and advanced scalability with the new Socket AM5. With the next generation Ryzen 7000 Series desktop processors, we are proud to deliver on our promise of market-leading and continuous innovation, delivering the best gaming experience for gamers and creators alike. IT STARTS WITH FOUR MODELS
Compared to the previous generation , the clock frequencies also increase significantly : to have a reference, the top of the range Ryzen 9 7950X has a base clock of 4.5GHz and a boost clock of 5.7GHz; in the predecessor Ryzen 9 5950X base clock and boost clock were 3.4GHz and 4.9GHz respectively.
With the Ryzen 7000 CPUs currently in the catalog, the maximum TDP reaches 170W (Ryzen 9 models) and there are currently no low-power models (the Ryzen 7 and 5 have a TDP of 105W). AMD points out for the step forward in terms of energy efficiency : for example, the Ryzen 7950X is up to 47% more efficient than competing proposals (the direct reference is to Intel’s i9-12900K). Another noteworthy element is the new 6nm I / O die that allows you to manage video encoding / decoding operations in hardware, graphics activities with low workload and multi-monitor configurations.
The main features of the first four Ryzen 7000 CPUs can be summarized as follows:
Ryzen 9 7950X
- 16 core / 32 thread
- base clock 4,5GHz / boost clock 5,7GHz
- total cache 80MB
- PCIe Gen 5
- TDP 170W
Ryzen 9 7900X
- 12 core / 24 thread
- base clock 4,7GHz / boost clock 5,6GHz
- total cache 76MB
- PCIe Gen 5
- TDP 170W
Ryzen 7 7700X
- 8 core / 16 thread
- base clock 4,5GHz / boost clock 5,4GHz
- total cache 40MB
- PCIe Gen 5
- TDP 105W
Ryzen 5 7600X
- 6 core / 12 thread
- base clock 4,7GHz / boost clock 5,3GHz
- total cache 38MB
- PCIe Gen 5
- TDP 105W
NEW SOCKET, NEW CHIPSETS
The Socket AM5 family of motherboards will be equipped with four chipsets . In the order from the top model to the one intended for mainstream users, you will find:
- AMD X670 Extreme : Maximum connectivity and overclocking capability, PCIe 5.0 support for graphics and storage
- AMD X670 : Advanced overclocking support, PCIe 5.0 support for storage, optional PCIe 5.0 support for video cards
- AMD B650E : overclocking support, PCIe 5.0 for storage devices and optional for video cards
- AMD B650 : Overclocking support, PCIe 5.0 for optional storage devices
Finally, it is worth mentioning the AMD Expo (Extended Profiles For Overclocking) technology: optimized for AMD Socket AM5 motherboards and Ryzen 7000 processors, it provides users with advanced settings for overclocking DDR5 memory. Specifically, the compatible memories allow you to automatically use the best timing and clock frequency settings for matching with the new Ryzen 7000. The result is a gain in gaming performance that can reach 11% at 1080p resolution and a reduction of latency up to 63ns. AMD Expo compatible kits will initially be available at DDR5-6400 speeds.
