PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be the last gaming consoles, after them the era of cloud services

Analysts from Citi Securities Japan recently shared an interesting forecast. They said the PS5 and Xbox Series X will be the last home consoles in the traditional sense of the word. Then they will be replaced by a variety of cloud services.

According to analysts, the life cycle of new generation set-top boxes will be about 6-7 years. Microsoft and Sony will try to extend this deadline as much as possible. However, by the end of the next generation, consoles will no longer be able to compete with cloud services.

Japanese experts say that the production of consoles will continue to rise in price. And over the lifecycle of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, services such as Google Stadia, Project xCloud, and GeForce Now will grow significantly. Their technology will improve and the library of games available will grow.

Analysts say the main advantage of cloud services is the ability to launch projects on mobile platforms and laptops with low performance. To do this, you only need a high-quality Internet connection.

Summing up, the experts said that users will abandon highly specialized consoles for playing games because they will be able to run them on any device.
