Microsoft set-top boxes sell even worse
Even though the first month of 2021 has not yet ended, the Web already has statistics on sales in January and on sales of all consoles for three years – 2019, 2020, and 2021. Let’s start from this year, and there is a big surprise.
PlayStation 5 is far from the most popular console of 2021
As you can see, the PlayStation 5 is not yet the most popular game console in 2021. Yes, it is sold very vigorously, but only slightly less than 150,000 PS5s were sold in the first half of January. The total sales of Xbox Series S and Series X are one and a half times less, and the market leader with a 65.2% share is Nintendo Switch – more than 455,000 of these consoles were sold in January 2021. If the supply situation for the PlayStation 5 were better, then the PS5 would be much closer to the Switch.
Other interesting data from the table. First, the total sales of the PlayStation 5 are close to 5 million units. A couple more weeks and this milestone will be taken. Secondly, sales of the previous generation consoles – PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo 3DS – if not stopped, then slowed down very much in 2021, which is understandable.
