Radeon RX 6800 XT at 2800 MHz sets three 3DMark Fire Strike records

AMD has synchronized the publication of the first reviews of the reference design Radeon RX 6800 XT video cards and the start of their sales, and soon the commercial copies fell into the hands of extreme overclocking specialists. One of these video cards was able to overclock up to 2800 MHz on a GPU under liquid nitrogen.

There is not much information about the conditions of the experiment, which was authored by a Chinese enthusiast with the pseudonym Takukou, but judging by the illustrations, the reference design Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card in his hands was equipped with a reservoir for liquid nitrogen and an additional fan for cooling power elements and microcircuits memory.

The test bench was based on the MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE motherboard based on the AMD X570 logic set, the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X central processor was installed in it, which overclocked to 5599 MHz under liquid nitrogen while maintaining the activity of 16 cores and 32 threads. Directly the video card Radeon RX 6800 XT overclocked to 2800 and 2150 (17200) MHz in the core and memory.

From this point of view, the frequency potential of 7nm AMD GPUs with RDNA 2 architecture is on a comparable level with 8nm NVIDIA Ampere GPUs from Samsung. The nuance lies in the fact that the latter requires not only liquid nitrogen to achieve such frequencies, but also a modification of the power subsystem, and AMD-brand chips released by TSMC storm such frequencies on reference video cards.

The test system of this configuration was able to score 49 456 points in 3DMark Fire Strike, 30 274 points in 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme, and 15 387 points in 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra. In the first two cases, the records for single video cards were updated, in the latter, everything was limited to the fourth place in the overall standings and the first in the model standings.
