Rocket League online action game will go shareware on all platforms and leave Steam

Psyonix has announced that Rocket League ‘s car-soccer arcade will be shareware this summer, in conjunction with the game’s release on the Epic Games Store.

Rocket League was released on July 7, 2015, on PC and PlayStation 4, on February 17, 2016, on Xbox One, and on November 14, 2017, on the Nintendo Switch. Today it is known that the project has attracted over 75 million players. The developer studio stopped sharing sales statistics a long time ago, but back in 2017, Rocket League sold 10.5 million copies.

Rocket League on the Epic Games Store will support cross-platform multiplayer with all versions, be it Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. However, the game will soon be unable to be purchased or activated on the Valve platform, although existing users will continue to receive updates. This is a consequence of Epic Games’ acquisition of Psyonix last year.
