Rumors: remaster of the first Onimusha failed in sales and closed the way for re-releases of the following parts

According to AestheticGamer, Capcom released the updated Onimusha: Warlords as a test of consumer interest in the franchise.

As it turns out, the public at Onimusha is not interested at all: “[The reissue] has proven to be AWESOME. Far worse than even the most modest expectations [from Capcom] .

The insider also added that the Japanese publishing house had plans to re-releases the second and third parts of Onimusha, but the unsatisfactory sales of the modernized Warlords put an end to Capcom’s endeavors in this area.

The re-release of Onimusha: Warlords was released in January 2019 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The remaster offers tighter graphics, 16: 9 aspect ratio support, and improved controls.

Despite the above improvements, the updated Onimusha: Warlords could not captivate journalists – the project has from 67 to 74 points on Metacritic. The original game received 86 points from the reviewers.

The Onimusha series began in 2001. Since then, four numbered parts have appeared on the PlayStation 2 and other platforms: Onimusha: Warlords (2001), Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny (2002), Onimusha 3: Demon Siege (2004), and Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams (2006).
