Samorost 2 received the first major update in 15 years and is out on mobile

The Czech studio Amanita Design, which created Machinarium and Chuchel, has released the first major update for the surreal quest Samorost 2. A patch with improvements to graphics, sound, and interface has been prepared for the 15th anniversary of the game. Simultaneously, it appeared on mobile devices running iOS and Android.

The update brought the following changes:

  • full-screen support;
  • improved graphics with higher resolution images;
  • improved sound;
  • new start screen;
  • modern level selection system in the main menu instead of the outdated one, which used codes;
  • simplified interface;
  • the ability to scale the image;
  • “Small changes in game design” ;
  • support for achievements.

Samorost 2 is compatible with Android 4.3 and later OS versions. Owners of iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch will be able to play it if the devices have iOS not older than version 10.0. On Google Play, the price is 99 rubles, on the App Store – $ 2.99.

In addition, the game has received official support for macOS.

Samorost 2 was released on December 8, 2005, for PC, and in December 2009 appeared on Steam  (also available on GOG  and on itch.io ).

The second part tells how the Dwarf (Gnome), the hero of the trilogy, travels in space in search of a dog abducted by aliens. As with most of the studio’s games, the user explores locations and solves puzzles using a point-and-click system. There is no inventory or dialogue. In 2006, Samorost 2 won the Flash Forward Film Festival award for the soundtrack by Tomáš Dvořák, composer of Samorost 3 and Machinarium, and in 2007 it was named Best Browser Game at the Independent Games Festival.

The Samorost series was created by Jakub Dvorský, who is also the lead designer for Machinarium and Pilgrims. The latest Amanita Design released last year on PC and iOS, and in July this was the release of the studio’s newest game, the puzzle platforming Creaks. It first appeared on iOS (for Apple Arcade subscribers) and later became available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Both games received warm press reviews (Pilgrims – 78/100, Creaks – 82–83 / 100 on Metacritic).

It is known that Amanita Design continues to work on the Phonopolis quest, all of the environment and objects in which are scanned images of real cardboard figures. A separate team is engaged in development. At the moment this is the only announced project of the studio.
