But Samsung Display will still produce them.

In the spring we wrote that Samsung intends to move its TVs from LCD panels to QD-OLED panels. These are panels that combine OLED technology and quantum dots.

Samsung is not friendly with itself? Samsung Electronics will not purchase QD-OLED panels from Samsung Display next year

However, it seems that with the development of this technology, things will not be the same as it was with QLED. The source claims that Samsung Display will start producing QD-OLED panels in the near future, but Samsung Electronics is not going to purchase them for use in TVs yet. Allegedly, the latter does not have such plans for at least the entire next year.

Therefore, Samsung Display’s QD-OLED panels will initially be outsourced. More precisely, TCL will be the first customer, that is, it will be the first to offer TVs with QD-OLED panels. Deliveries start in the first half of 2021, with the first 65-inch model slated to be announced in September during IFA 2021.

One of the reasons why Samsung Electronics does not want to buy a new type of panel from Samsung Display, allegedly, is the lack of brightness of the latter. At the same time, you need to understand that there is nothing supernatural in the current situation. Yes, usually Samsung Electronics is the first and main customer of other Samsung Group companies, but this is not necessary at all.
