The camera uses a new 12.2MP Exmor R image sensor. It is a back-illuminated CMOS type sensor. The Bionz XR processor is busy with data processing. The manufacturer notes a wide range of light sensitivity – ISO 80-102400, expandable to ISO 40-409600; improved image quality compared to the previous model and additional noise reduction (by about 1 EV) at medium and high ISO values.

The camera is equipped with a stabilization system for five degrees of freedom. The hybrid autofocus system has 759 points that cover 92% of the frame. The manufacturer notes the improved operation of the function of detecting eyes in the frame and tracking them.
