According to a statement released by Vivo on its website, the companies will team up to create a joint research and development program known as the Vivo Zeiss Imaging Lab. The program will focus on developing innovative solutions for mobile imaging technologies. In addition, the program will oversee the co-development and co-design of the optical components that will be present in Vivo’s flagships.

Vivo already has several imaging research and development centers around the world, employing over 700 people. This time around, Vivo will have access to Zeiss’s decades of experience in optics and optoelectronics.

Vivo also announced that the partnership is also launching the Vivo Zeiss Master Photography campaign to promote newly developed imaging systems and “inspire users to be creative with Vivo’s flagship smartphones.”

The Vivo X60 will come with Zeiss Vario-Tessar anti-reflective lenses. The flagship smartphone is expected to use Zeiss 3D PoP algorithms for the bokeh effect. Camera technology co-developed with Zeiss will be incorporated into future high-performance Vivo phones.
