The Tata Altroz, a popular hatchback in the Indian market, is set to receive a refresh for the 2024 model year. This update comes alongside the launch of the sportier Altroz Racer, with some of the Racer’s features trickling down to the standard Altroz. While official details haven’t been unveiled on Tata’s website yet, a leaked brochure has shed light on the significant changes coming to the 2024 Altroz. Let’s delve into the five biggest upgrades you can expect.
Bigger and Better Display
A significant upgrade adorning the cabin of the higher-spec 2024 Altroz variants is a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This replaces the current 7-inch unit, offering a more contemporary and user-friendly experience. The new screen boasts a similar size to the one found in the Tata Punch EV. This upgrade is accompanied by the implementation of Tata’s latest infotainment system operating software, along with the convenience of wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
Enhanced Driver Information with a Digital Display
Tata is doubling down on improved visuals within the Altroz cabin. Higher-spec variants will now sport a sleek 7-inch fully digital driver’s display, replacing the traditional analog instrument cluster. This digital display provides a modern aesthetic and potentially offers greater customization options for the driver.
Increased Safety Focus with Additional Airbags
Previously, the standard Altroz only offered dual front airbags, even in its top-spec variant. With safety being a paramount concern for car buyers, Tata is addressing this by equipping all variants of the 2024 Altroz with six airbags. This upgrade significantly enhances passenger protection in the event of a collision.
Improved Situational Awareness with a 360-degree Camera
Another noteworthy addition borrowed from Tata’s newer offerings is the inclusion of a 360-degree camera. This feature, available from the higher-spec XZ Lux variant onwards, provides a comprehensive view of the vehicle’s surroundings, aiding in safe maneuvering in tight spaces or while parking. Additionally, a blind-spot monitoring system is integrated with the 360-degree camera system. Whenever the driver activates the turn indicator, the blind-spot monitor’s feed is displayed on the touchscreen, eliminating potential blind spots and enhancing overall driving awareness.
Powertrain Updates: A Shift in Strategy
The most significant change for the 2024 Altroz lies in its powertrain options. Previously, the Altroz offered a choice of three engines: a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-liter diesel, and a 110 PS 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine. While the naturally aspirated petrol and diesel engines remain available, the 1.2-liter turbo-petrol unit is being replaced. The replacement engine is expected to be the more powerful 1.2-liter unit found in the upcoming Altroz Racer.
A Shift in Turbocharged Offerings?
There seems to be some ambiguity regarding the availability of the new turbo-petrol engine. While the leaked brochure suggests its inclusion, some sources speculate that this engine might be exclusive to the Altroz Racer. This could potentially leave the standard 2024 Altroz without a turbo-petrol option altogether. Official confirmation from Tata Motors is awaited to clarify this aspect.
When to Expect the 2024 Altroz
With the Altroz Racer scheduled for launch on June 7, 2024, the updated standard Altroz is expected to follow suit shortly thereafter. The Altroz Racer is anticipated to have a starting price of Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom), and the 2024 Altroz is likely to see a price increase compared to the current model (priced between Rs 6.65 lakh and Rs 10.80 lakh, ex-showroom).
