“Objects can be zoomed in and viewed from different angles”
The 2GIS service has launched highly detailed immersive 3D maps, which include detailed renderings of city sights and different types of trees in parks.
2GIS is moving to a new level of detail in 3D maps: now you can see the details of buildings and parks on them, right down to which trees grow in a particular park. Objects can be zoomed in and viewed from different angles. Depending on the time of day, the display mode of realistic models changes: as in a real city, they look different at night than during the day. Such maps create an immersive effect and are called immersive.

Since July, new 3D building models have been available in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Irkutsk, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Samara, Saratov and Vologda. New species of trees and shrubs, including palm trees, will soon appear. In winter, the trees will be displayed without leaves.
On the maps it will be possible to see the landscaping of streets, courtyards and private quarters. The changes will also affect zoos in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk. In place of the enclosures, you can see icons depicting animals.
“The size of downloadable maps for cities has not changed, immersive models will be shown if there is a stable Internet connection,” said Dmitry Demchenko, head of the 2GIS technology department.
