It is 30% faster than the Ryzen 9 4900HS in a single-threaded test

AMD will unveil the Ryzen 5000 mobile processors on January 12 and lead the new Ryzen 9 5900HX lineup. This hybrid processor has already appeared in the description of finished devices and the Geekebnch benchmark database, thanks to which you can evaluate its performance relative to its predecessor and competitors. Let’s note right away that the letter X in the name most likely indicates support for overclocking.

Asus has become the exclusive partner of AMD to bring Ryzen 9 4900HS laptops to the market. This time the situation is likely to repeat itself, as Ryzen 9 5900HX is first mentioned in the description of the Asus ROG Zephyrus 15.6 laptop and accompanied by an unannounced AMD processor unannounced Nvidia 3D cards – GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3070. Another Asus model, the ROG Zephyrus 14, features a Ryzen 9 5900HS processor (probably a 35W version of the Ryzen 9 5900HX) with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3D card 3060 Max-Q. This is the distribution of processors and video cards not yet officially presented.

Now a few words about the performance of the Ryzen 9 5900HX. This APU, once again tested with an Asus laptop (this time the dual-screen Zephyrus Duo GX551QS), scored 1423 points in a single-threaded test and 6912 points in a multi-threaded one.

Thus, it is 23% and 24% faster than one of the most popular CPUs in the Comet Lake-H line – the Core i7-10750H. When comparing the Ryzen 9 5900HX to the Ryzen 9 4900HS, the new processor is 30% faster in a single-threaded test but 3% slower in a multi-threaded test. However, the Ryzen 9 5900HX has a decent amount of time ahead of its release, and there is little doubt that its performance will improve.

The test also confirmed the characteristics of the Ryzen 9 5900HX – the presence of 8 cores and multi-threading support. The base frequency is at the Ryzen 9 4900H (3.3 GHz), but the frequency in Boost mode increased by 200 MHz to 4.6 GHz.

Recall that on January 12, along with the Ryzen 5000H processors, the Ryzen 5000U series processors will also be released – with lower performance and much lower power consumption. Perhaps, on this day, AMD will introduce mobile video cards Radeon RX 6000. But it is not exactly.
