90% of the content on YouTube is not needed by anyone, and one video out of 130 gets 100 thousand views

Many of those who regularly visit the world’s largest video hosting YouTube and subscribe to famous bloggers, probably dream of creating their own successful channel in this Google service. But a very small number of users manage to make their dreams come true. According to the latest statistics, only 0.77% of videos posted on YouTube gain at least 100,000 views. Most of the videos (88.4%) do not exceed the threshold of even 1000 views.

According to research by Pex, in 2019, YouTube users watched an average of 5 billion videos daily. Moreover, 0.77% of content that exceeded the mark of 100,000 views accounted for 82.83% of viewers of the entire video hosting service.
Of course, 100,000 viewers per video is a lot, and many bloggers would be happy to be content with several tens of thousands. But there are only 2.8% of such videos on YouTube. Another 8% of videos gain from 1,000 to 10,000 views.

When it comes to video topics, despite the explosive growth in video game content, this is not the best category for YouTube success. Music is the leader in terms of views on the service – every minute the average music video is watched 2944 times. This is about 22 times the views of in-game content. But it is the latter that are downloaded the most on YouTube. This discrepancy between the number of videos and the number of viewers is likely due to the fact that the gaming video niche is overcrowded.
