The most expensive battle in the history of games took place in EVE Online – it entered the “Guinness Book of Records”

The massively multiplayer game EVE Online continues to enjoy enviable popularity. CCP Games announced that gamers have set two Guinness World Records in EVE Online at once, taking part in a large-scale battle of the current war.

Massacre M2-XFE

Five thousand members of the two largest coalitions – Imperium and PAPI – on New Year’s Eve fought for control of the territory in a battle dubbed “Massacre in M2-XFE”. In memory of this historical event, a monument will be installed in the game. If we talk about the two mentioned world records, then we are talking about the most expensive battle in the history of video games ($ 378,012) and the largest number of titans lost in the battle (257). You can read more about the progress of the massive encounter and its implications for EVE Online on the CCP Games blog .

The developers said that the battle lasted 14 hours on December 30-31, over 1000 titans, 400 supercars and 400 dreadnoughts were involved in it. The battle took away 257 Titans, the most massive ships in EVE Online, and a total of 3,404 ships went to the dustbin of history. Losses in game currency amounted to 29 111 604 784 863 ISK, which corresponds to $ 378 012. The last battle that got into the Guinness Book of Records was the “Bloodbath in B-R5RB” sample of 2014 – then the losses were estimated at $ 302 387.

The ongoing massive multiplayer alliance conflict, of which the new battle is a part, began in EVE Online in July 2020. The war, called World War Bee 2, was attended by about 130,000 players. They fought for control of in-game territories and geopolitical supremacy. World War Bee 2 became the third all-out war since the game’s premiere in 2003.

“EVE Online once again demonstrates what incredible events can take place in the player-driven world of New Eden, ” said CCP Games CEO Hilmar Petursson. “ For us at CCP, watching the M2-XFE Massacre unfolding was a truly exciting experience But none of this would have been possible without passionate players around the world. We are grateful to them for their faith in our vision for EVE Online . “
