Smartphone manufacturer patents that fall on the Web are far from always embodied in serial products. Especially when it’s not about any technology, but about design or form factor.
A smartphone mattress is Samsung’s new form factor. This is just a patent, but it looks very interesting.
Samsung’s new patent, which describes one of the options for a flexible smartphone, most likely refers to those.
As you can see, in this case, we are talking about an apparatus that can bend in two places. Moreover, if earlier in such patents we saw normally folding devices, then in this case the smartphone bends rather than folds. The result is something that looks like a mattress.
Of course, using such a device would be inconvenient, and when folded, the device would be useless, so it is extremely doubtful that we will ever see just such a performance. However, the patent was filed by Samsung Display, not Samsung Electronics, which means that the main thing in it is the capabilities of a flexible display, not a smartphone.
