Apple said it would stop advertising on Platform X, two days after Elon Musk tweeted his agreement with an anti-Semitic post. A number of other major technology and media companies, from IBM to Disney, made similar announcements on Friday.
According to a report published earlier this week, Apple ads were placed next to tweets praising Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. Film studio Lionsgate said it would also suspend advertising on X, as did Warner Bros., Paramount, Sony Pictures and Comcast/NBCUniversal, according to media reports. The New York Times confirmed that Disney will also pause advertising.
After an anti-Semitic tweet, Elon Musk was condemned in the White House.
The White House on November 17, 2023 condemned the owner of social network X and the richest man in the world, Elon Musk, for “disgusting propaganda” of anti-Semitism. Referring to Musk’s post, White House spokesman Andrew Bates said that such a position is unacceptable.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO wrote on Wednesday that a tweet accusing Jews of hating white people was the “real truth.” The White House condemned Musk’s statements Friday morning, calling them “disgusting.” A coalition of more than 150 rabbis called on Apple, Disney, Amazon, Oracle and others to stop buying advertising on the social network in response to Musk’s tweets.
The iPhone maker was one of the social network’s biggest advertisers, spending about $100 million a year there, according to Bloomberg.
