First country outside of South Korea to debut the new Sorento
For the start of the Los Angeles Auto Show, Kia presented the 2024 Kia Sorento in specifications for the North American market. In fact, the Sorento entered the foreign market for the first time, as until now the car was presented only in South Korea.
In terms of appearance, the Sorento 2024 for the US market is no different from the version for the domestic Korean market. The car is made in the style of the electric flagship EV9 with narrow T-shaped optics. But, unlike an electric car, there is a large radiator grille and a decent-sized air intake in the lower part. The new X-Pro version has small 17-inch wheels, but they are shod with high-profile “toothy” tires, which improves cross-country ability.
An innovation in the cabin is a screen panel with two 12.3-inch displays, this is already a standard solution for new Kia, implemented in both the K5 2024 sedan and the Carnival 2024 minivan. To accommodate this screen panel, the ventilation deflectors had to be redone. From its older brother EV9, the new Sorento inherits a number of technologies such as the Kia Connected Car Navigation Cockpit and over-the-air media system updates.
All-new 2024 Kia Sorento unveiled in the US
Sorento 2024 received smart adaptive cruise control: it is able to learn and adopt the owner’s driving style, at least when it comes to accelerator and brake control. The car also has 10 driver assistance systems, such as a collision avoidance system and a pedestrian collision avoidance system. Digital Key 2.0 technology allows you to turn your smartphone into a car key.
In the USA, the Sorento 2024 is offered with two 2.5-liter engines: a naturally aspirated one produces 181 hp, it is combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the power of a turbocharged engine, working in conjunction with an 8-speed “robot” with two clutches, is 281 hp The drive can be either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Kia has announced hybrids for the US, but they will appear in the Sorento for the 2025 model year (that is, around the middle of next year). Prices will be announced closer to the start of sales.
