An image of an alternative remote for Apple TV was found in the tvOS code

In the tvOS 14.5 Beta 6 code, experts from the 9to5Mac portal found an image of an alternative remote control for the Apple TV set-top box. Initially, it was assumed that this remote control might be included in a new generation of branded set-top boxes. As it turns out, it will be just an alternative console, developed in conjunction with American cable operators for their customers.

Rumors about a new remote for Apple TV have been around for a long time, and, in general, they came true. Accessory code name: B519. The main difference from the remote that comes with Apple TV is the absence of a touch panel and a navigation wheel (something similar was in the console of the first generation). The presence of buttons for switching channels and opening the TV guide is also noted.

As suggested by iGeneration, this remote will in no way replace the standard one but will be supplied to cable TV customers. Later, a page was found on Universal Electronics’ website, the company that developed this remote control. It probably won’t be sold directly on Apple’s official online store.

The information that has appeared rejects rumors about the imminent release of a new Apple TV. However, sophisticated fans continue to hope for this, and yet sooner or later, it will happen since the last time the Cupertinians updated their set-top box in 2017.
