Apple introduced three new versions of the Magic Keyboard at once and they are compatible with old systems

Apple yesterday unveiled the new M1-based iMacs, along with the new Magic Keyboard. The manufacturer presented several versions of keyboards at once, which differ in the number of keys and equipment.

A more advanced version of the iMac with an eight-core graphics processor will be equipped with a new Magic Keyboard with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor; the basic modification keyboard will be devoid of a fingerprint sensor. To equip the base iMac with the new Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, you’ll have to pay an extra $ 50. Note that both keyboard versions lack the numeric keypad.

However, for those who still need a dedicated numeric keypad, Apple will offer an updated Magic Keyboard with a numeric keypad. It exists only in a modification with Touch ID. It costs an extra $ 80 to equip the base iMac and an extra $ 30 to add a larger keyboard to the more advanced model.

All new keyboards are fully compatible with all M1-based computers. It is reported that the new Magic Keyboard will work seamlessly with Intel-based Macs. However, models with a fingerprint sensor will be of little use to Intel-based Mac users – Touch ID will not be compatible with such computers. Currently, the retail price of the new keyboards is still unknown, as well as when they can be purchased separately from the iMac.
