Maximum modularity
iFixit specialists got to the Asus ROG Ally portable game console. A disassembly of one of the Nintendo Switch’s biggest rivals showed that Asus has made one of the best handheld consoles when it comes to repairs or upgrades.
Asus ROG Ally is easy to open (only six screws hold the lid) and most of the components inside (including controls) are modular. Therefore, it is not difficult, for example, to replace the SSD or the battery. The latter, by the way, is not glued, but is fixed with ordinary screws – like in a laptop. In general, the design of the console resembles the design of a typical laptop.
Asus ROG Ally game console surprised iFixit disassemblers with its maintainability
The only component that will have to tinker with is the screen: it is glued. Everything else is easy to remove and then reinstall inside the case.
iFixit did not say how many points the console received for repairability, but it is obvious that the result will be very good. But it’s not good that Windows 11 lags a lot on consoles, and it’s hard to say what the problem is.
