The project turned out to be unviable
Evgeny Shmelev, First Executive Vice President for Strategy and Technical Development at AvtoVAZ, explained why the Duster project turned out to be unviable.
After the restructuring of the Renault Group business in Russia, as a result of which the company’s assets were transferred to AvtoVAZ with a buyback option, the issue of resuming production of some Renault models, in particular the Duster, was considered.
AvtoVAZ explained why the Lada Duster was not released
“We immediately realized that we simply would not make the Duster with all-wheel drive – either everything was blocked, or under the threat of blocking the supply of components. And “Duster,” according to statistics, was sold in Russia for more than ninety percent with 4×4, so making a “Duster” without all-wheel drive in the form of just a light crossover, dragging all the equipment and investing in further replacement of components, did not make any sense,” said Evgeniy Shmelev .
Earlier, the Motor1 resource published high-quality images of the new generation Renault Duster crossover.
