The cars are armored and offer a high level of comfort
BMW has introduced a new generation of rugged vehicles, including the BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series Protection, which offer a combination of high levels of protection, driving comfort, advanced features and power.
The BMW i7 Protection is positioned as the world’s first all-electric protected sedan that meets VR9 protection class standards. The internal combustion engine of the BMW 7 Series Protection also meets these protection standards.
The new vehicle safety concept is based on the Protection Core: a self-supporting armored steel body structure with reinforced underbody and roof and armored glass. The roof and underbody of the two protected sedans are specially armored to provide optimum protection, especially against explosive ordnance. This design ensures that passengers are protected not only from potential drone attacks using explosives, but also from shrapnel, such as when hand grenades detonate.
The equipment includes a self-sealing fuel tank. This tank is equipped with a special casing that allows it to automatically seal when hit by a bullet. The BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series Protection have been weight-optimized compared to their predecessors. In addition, the BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series Protection are the only protected vehicles in their segment to feature Integral Active Steering.
BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series Protection introduced
The vehicles are fitted with 20-inch alloy wheels paired with Michelin tires (size 255-740 R510) specially designed for the Protection class sedans. PAX tires are equipped with a runflat ring located on the wheel rim, which allows the car to continue moving at speeds up to 80 km/h even in the event of a complete loss of pressure.
The BMW 7 Series Protection is equipped with a hybrid powertrain based on a 4.4-liter V8 petrol engine with 530 hp. and 750 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h takes just 6.6 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited at around 210 km / h.
The BMW i7 Protection is equipped with two electric motors with a total output of 544 hp. and 745 Nm of torque. Acceleration takes 9 seconds and top speed is electronically limited to 160 km/h.
