Cadillac will supply hybrid powertrains for Andretti Cadillac F1 cars
Cadillac confirmed Tuesday that it has registered with the FIA as the official powertrain manufacturer of Formula 1 and plans to supply hybrid powertrains to the newly formed Andretti Cadillac F1 team starting in the 2028 season.
“We are thrilled that our new Andretti Cadillac F1 will be equipped with a General Motors powertrain,” said GM President Mark Reuss. “With our deep engineering and racing experience, we are confident that we will develop a successful powertrain for this series and position Andretti Cadillac as a true factory team.” We will work with the best, at the highest level, with passion and integrity that will help elevate the sport for racing fans around the world.”
Cadillacs will appear in Formula 1
The announcement comes just a month after the FIA approved Andretti’s bid for the Formula 1 Championship. The company is expected to pay at least $200 million in fees, which will be distributed among existing teams as compensation, since future prize money will be divided among 11 teams instead of 10.
General Motors says it is already developing and testing a prototype of the technology that will eventually be used in the powertrains of Cadillac-branded Formula One cars. The company is no stranger to racing, having developed the 5.5-liter V-8 engine that powered the Cadillac IMSA GTP race car to a championship victory as well as a podium finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
