The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles (BBBSLA) annual gala, “The Big Night Out,” honored mentors from their Women in Entertainment Mentorship Program. This event celebrated the achievements of women in media and their commitment to supporting young girls from underserved communities.

A Night of Recognition

The gala recognized several influential women in the entertainment industry, including Debra Lee, former BET CEO, and Pamela Abdy, co-CEO of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group. These women were honored for their contributions to the industry and their dedication to mentoring young girls.

Debra Lee: A Trailblazer

Debra Lee, a recipient of the Defender of Potential award, was praised for her groundbreaking achievements at BET. Channing Dungey, chairwoman of Warner Bros. Television Studios, highlighted Lee’s role in paving the way for women of color in media.

Lee’s commitment to mentorship extended beyond her role at BET. She founded Leading Women Defined, an organization focused on supporting Black female executives, and the Monarchs Collective, aimed at increasing diversity in boardrooms.

Pamela Abdy: A Mentor and Role Model

Pamela Abdy, who was part of the THR’s WIE mentorship program, was honored for her dedication to mentoring young women in media. Stacey Sher, a renowned producer, expressed her admiration for Abdy’s leadership and guidance.

Abdy emphasized the importance of supporting women throughout their careers, both during successes and failures. She announced a new collaboration between BBBSLA and Warner Bros. Discovery to create career pathways for L.A. youth.
