Chappell Roan Prioritizes Mental Health

Chappell Roan Prioritizes Mental Health, Cancels All Things Go Festival Performances

Chappell Roan, the rising pop star known for her hit songs like “Good Luck, Babe!” and “HOT TO GO!,” has made the difficult decision to cancel her upcoming performances at the All Things Go festival in Washington, D.C., and New York City. The singer cited overwhelming pressure and the need to prioritize her mental health as the reasons for the cancellation.

A Heartfelt Message to Fans

In an Instagram Story post, Roan expressed her apologies to fans who were looking forward to seeing her perform. “I apologize to people who have been waiting to see me in NYC & DC this weekend at All Things Go, but I am unable to perform,” she wrote. “Things have gotten overwhelming over the past few weeks and I am really feeling it.”

The singer continued, “I feel pressures to prioritize a lot of things right now and I need a few days to prioritize my health. I want to be present when I perform and give the best shows possible. Thank you for understanding. Be back soon xox.”

A Public Struggle with Mental Health

Roan’s decision to cancel her performances comes amidst a public discussion about mental health and the challenges faced by artists in the music industry. In August, the singer opened up about her experiences with a stalker and aggressive fans who have made her feel unsafe.

“Please stop touching me. Please stop being weird to my family and friends. Please stop assuming things about me. There is always more to the story. I am scared and tired,” she said in a lengthy social media post. “I feel more love than I ever have in my life. I feel the most unsafe I have ever felt in my life.”

Roan has also been candid about the pressures of the music industry and the toll it can take on mental health. In a previous social media post, she expressed her frustration with the industry’s emphasis on burnout and overworking.

“My brain is like, ‘Quit right now, take next year off.’ This industry and artistry fucking thrive on mental illness, burnout, overworking yourself, overextending yourself, not sleeping. You get bigger the more unhealthy you are. Isn’t that so fucked up?” she said. “The ambition is: How do I not hate myself, my job, my life, and do this? Because right now, it’s not working. I’m just scrambling to try to feel healthy.”

A Controversial Comment and Clarification

Roan’s performance cancellation also follows a recent controversy surrounding her comments about the 2024 presidential election. The singer initially stated that she “doesn’t feel pressured to endorse” either Kamala Harris or Donald Trump, citing problems on both sides of the political spectrum.

Her comments sparked backlash online, with some accusing her of being a secret Trump supporter and criticizing her for not encouraging her fan base to vote. Roan later clarified her stance, emphasizing that she was voting for Kamala Harris but was not entirely satisfied with the options available.

“Endorsing and voting are completely different,” Roan said. “I don’t agree with a lot of what is going on with policies — obviously, fuck the policies of the right, but also fuck some of the policies on the left. That’s why I can’t endorse. That’s why I can’t put my entire name in my entire project behind one.”
