X will become an “effective global address book”

Elon Musk announced late last week that users of the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, will soon be able to make video and audio calls to each other.

Elon Musk wrote that the video and audio calls coming to X will work on iOS, Android, Mac and PC. You won’t need a phone number, and X will become an “efficient global address book.” This means that users probably won’t have to save phone numbers and will be able to call each other just by checking the username.

Earlier in August, designer Andrea Conway shared a post that said, “Just called someone at X.”

Musk acquired Twitter last year for $44 billion and began completely overhauling the social networking site. Musk announced that he plans to remove the blocking feature, with the exception of private messages. He said the blocking feature is “useless” and that it doesn’t stop people from seeing your tweets.

The platform now supports longer videos. Previously, videos with a maximum length of 140 seconds, or 2 minutes 20 seconds, were allowed, but for premium users the situation has changed. Now they can upload videos up to 2 hours long.
