Companies will start losing gold tags if they don’t spend money
The social networking site Twitter, renamed X, is trying to win back advertisers with a 50 percent discount on certain ads and is reportedly threatening to remove gold tags from business profiles if advertisers don’t start spending money.
Buying ads gives brands 24 hours of placement on Top Topics X, and discounts are available until July 31st. In addition, X gave advertisers an August 7 deadline to spend money on the platform. Otherwise, they will lose their gold mark. The Register specifies that they will have to spend $1,000 in the last 30 days or $6,000 in the last 180 days.
When Elon Musk bought Twitter late last year, advertisers concerned about the safety of the brand on the platform reacted almost immediately with backlash. Previously, ads accounted for roughly 90% of Twitter’s revenue. Back in December, Twitter was desperate to get advertisers back on the platform.

In July, it was reported that Elon Musk’s decision to temporarily limit the number of messages that Twitter users can view per day is undermining the efforts of the company’s new chief executive, Linda Iaccarino, to attract advertisers.
Iaccarino’s arrival coincided with the departures of Ella Irwin, AJ Brown and May Ayed, Twitter’s chiefs of trust, brand safety and ad quality. Around the same time, reports surfaced that Twitter’s ad revenue for the first week of May was down 59% year-over-year.
