Enthusiast created a program that protect the flammable 12VHPWR connector by monitoring temperature

The software can turn off the PC when the connector overheats

While Nvidia is working on a new 12V-2×6 power connector and is already using a modified 12VHPWR in some Founders Edition video cards , a solution has appeared that allows you to further secure yourself when using the old 12VHPWR. An enthusiast from the Reddit forums under the pseudonym mamolengo has developed a program that will allow you to monitor the temperature of the connector and take action if necessary.

Of course, no software can measure temperature without a sensor, so those who want to try this method will also need to buy a temperature sensor with a 10k thermistor. These usually cost around $10. Many motherboards have a connector for connecting such a sensor, so there should not be any problems with this.

The enthusiast software will read the sensor data and can be programmed to run a specific command when the connector temperature reaches a certain level. For example, an application can be programmed to reduce the power limit of the video card, which will reduce the load on the connector, or to shut down the application or game, or to turn off the computer altogether.

It’s not a fact that such a solution will allow you to completely protect yourself, but this is a good and cheap option mainly for RTX 4090 owners.
