Late Tuesday evening, a devastating multi-vehicle accident occurred on Maryland’s Capital Beltway, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to nine others, according to Maryland State Police. The preliminary investigation revealed that a white Mercedes SUV was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-270, heading toward the outer loop of I-495 in Montgomery County when it collided with a Lexus and a Nissan Pathfinder.

The impact of the collision left five adults in the Lexus with injuries, and they were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. In the Nissan, two adults and three children were also injured. Tragically, the female driver of the Nissan lost her life and was pronounced deceased after being transported to an area hospital. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Authorities identified the alleged wrong-way driver as 23-year-old Jayleen Hannor from Macon, Georgia. After fleeing the scene of the crash, Hannor was swiftly apprehended and taken into custody. Charges against her are pending, as the investigation continues.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the inquiry to determine the cause of this devastating accident. As the community mourns the loss of a life and prays for the swift recovery of the injured, the focus remains on finding answers and ensuring that such tragic incidents are prevented in the future.
